The Anglican Church of Rwanda is growing! The House of Bishops of the Anglican Church of Rwanda convened in EAR Kigali Diocese, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, elected Archdeacon HABIMFURA Vincent as the first Bishop of Nyaruguru Diocese (Nyaruguru District, Southern Province of Rwanda). The new diocese was established as part of an expanding evangelism in the Nyaruguru area. The public may ask who Bishop Elect Vincent is.
I had a privilege to meet with him in different church meetings. I know him as a servant with solid testimony and experience that I wanted to share with you in the following paragraphs.
Bishop Elect Vincent HABIMFURA was born in 1975 in Cyobe Cell, Mushubi Sector, Nyamagabe District, Southern Province. He completed his primary studies at Gasenyi and continued his high school studies at IJW Kibogora, Nyamasheke District. He studied Theology at Carlyle College and Wycliffe University in Nairobi and received a master’s degree in Theology.
As far as his career is concerned, Bishop Elect Vincent has been a Teacher at Gasenyi Primary School and a Head-teacher at Remera and Buhanzi Primary Schools. He headed four Anglican Parishes: Rugote, Cyivugiza, Kibeho and Uwinkomero. He was the Principal of the Church District of Cyivugiza (Nyaruguru) and the Archdeacon of Nyaruguru. He has been the Administrator of EAR, Kimeme Diocese and the Chaplain in Kigeme Hospital. Note also that Bishop Elect Vincent has been the President of Rwanda Inter-religious Council (RIC) in Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe Districts.
Bishop Elect HABIMFURA Vincent will be ordained and enthroned on Sunday, August 28, 2022, date which is also the day of the inauguration of Nyaruguru Diocese. Nyaruguru will become the 13th diocese of the Anglican Church of Rwanda, and is expected to comprise more than 17 parishes. Currently, the Anglican Church of Rwanda has more than 1.2 million members.
I give personal thanks to God for the election of Vincent as Bishop of Nyaruguru, and for the rapid growth of the Anglican Church of Rwanda. Glory to God!
